HEATHER GRAHAM The Island

On a weekend getaway with her brother and niece, Beth Anderson is panic-stricken when she comes upon a skull on the beach, and instantly recalls the disappearance of a retired couple last seen in that area. Beth was even more unnerved when a handsome stranger came upon them and quickly covered up their discovery. When Beth returned with her brother to show him her find, it's no longer there and he dismisses her discovery thinking she mistook a conch shell for the skull. Beth knows what she saw, but without the skull she certainly can't bring the authorities in to investigate, however, that doesn't stop her from trying to unravel the mystery herself.
THE ISLAND is an exhilarating romantic suspense with the emphasis on red herrings, twists and turns, and plenty of action as Beth tries to learn the truth about the vanishing skull which soon leads into "Sail into Terror". Adding to the thriller is an intriguing secondary romance between Ben and a suspect that can only turn out bad for someone.

JACK HIGGINS Rough Justice

Suspense grandmaster Jack Higgins writes another fascinating tense thriller that is loaded with action. Yet with all the non--stop action, the story line also contains the political realties of the world today with insight into Muslim fundamentalists, Russia's efforts to return to superpower status, the NATO response, and the fragile peace in several places like Northern Ireland.

ROSE TREMAIN The Road Home

The tale of Lev, a middle aged Polish migrant worker, who comes to London after losing both his job and his wife, is both moving and funny. It's a marvellous take on modern Britain where foreign workers on scant wages toil away in the kitchens of posh restaurants in London and asparagus fields in Norfolk, whilst at the other end of the scale celebrity culture rules.
Beautifully written, THE ROAD HOME is an uplifting read and highly recommended.

DOMENICA DE ROSA Villa Serena

The story of Emily, a British woman struggling to bring up two teenage daughters and a toddler in Tuscany while still caught up in her own unresolved romantic dreams. The writing evokes Italy with great charm, but digs beneath the banalities of picture postcard images to explore the darker side of the country's recent past. It is thoughtful and entertaining, and alongside the romance, it asks some big questions about loyalty. It's a great read..
