KATHY REICHS Fatal Voyage

As usual, Kathy Reichs has written a book that's gripping and believable, and which has that undeniable ring of authenticity. It's stuffed full of details about forensic anthropology, but the technical stuff never seems forced - it's all presented in a way that's accessible and interesting for all readers, no matter what their knowledge of this highly specialized science. The plot has numerous twists and turns, and an ending that's both surprising and shocking. Highly recommended.

JOSEPH O'NEILL Netherland

WINNER OF THE 2009 PEN/FAULKNER AWARD FOR FICTION.
A narrative of the time and effect of a Dutch man married to an English woman and their time in NYC before, during and after 9/11. But the 9/11 incidence has little to do with the story except in a tangential way. This is mostly the story of a man who is disaffected from society..

PATRICK GALE Notes From An Exhibition

Recommended for anyone who likes fiction to be about real life, rather than simply an escape from it. Revolves around the life of Rachel, an artist whose life has been shaped by bouts of manic depression, and her family, including her husband, Anthony, who is a Quaker, and their four children. The novel has much to commend it: an accutely sensitive account of the pain caused by bipolar disorder, both to sufferers and to their families, it also manages to retain a sense of warmth and humanity that is both redemptive and tragic. A must have on your shelves....

CATHERINE ALLIOT Not That Kind of Girl

A wickedly witty, funny novel. Henrietta Tate has always taken her role as a full-time mother and home-maker very seriously. She's never had time for anything else. But now she and her family have moved to an idyllic house in the countryside and her teenage children are away at boarding school most of the time, she finds herself less than fulfilled by life in the sticks. Perhaps a new job working for Laurence de Havilland, the famous military historian, could provide just the distraction she needs!

AMITAV GHOSH The Glass Palace

Rajkumar Raha is 12 when he is orphaned on a sampan tethered in a mangrove-lined estuary. He makes his way from Bengal into Burma, to Mandalay, just ahead of the British arriving to depose King Thebaw. On the eve of the Royal Family's departure into exile, Raha sees, in the Glass Palace, Dolly, the Queen's 10-year-old handmaid. This is obsession at first sight. Almost 20 years later, having made his fortune in timber, Raha seeks out Dolly in her exile in Ratnagiri. Throughout the novel, the Empire expands and then retracts, fortunes are won and lost, the face of the world changes. The novel follows Raha's family through three generations and many cities. It teems with servants of the British Empire and with their colonial subjects. This is the East as seen by its own people, described by a writer whose allegiance is simply to the human. Ghosh is one of the most sympathetic post-colonial voices to be heard today. He looks at love and loyalty, and examines questions of Empire and responsibility, of tradition and modernity. This is a funny, sad, entertaining, wise and - ultimately - a hopeful book. I loved it.

(THIS IS A MUCH SOUGHT AFTER BOOK, VERY INTERESTING READING..)

STEVE BERRY The Romanov Prophecy

Steven Berry based his thriller on the present state of Russia, the actual disputes in the Romananov family over the question of the headship of the House, the prophecies of Rasputin and most of all on the eternal mystery what has happend to the last Imperial Family. JACKIE COLLINS Drop Dead Beautiful

For all Jackie Collins fans, Lucky's back and she is quite a character. She's the kind of woman that all women would like to be because she says what she wants and means and gets away with it all.
Here she has a 16 year old daughter in this story who is now online meeting perverts and an older guy who says he is 19 without her mom knowing. She is building a new hotel in Vegas and has that to deal with. Of course no Jackie Collins book would be complete without a villan (Anthony Bonar) who is someone from her past who's planning to take everything from her.
